Automations are great for many things. Above all, you save a lot of time by using them. Instead of manually creating the same dispatches over and over again for events and bookings, you set up the automation once – and then it runs automatically. Automations are also excellent for spreading information, increasing your sales, and building stronger customer relationships.

With so many great reasons to use automations, it's time to introduce the latest addition to MarketHype: order automations!

What is an automation?

An automation is an email or SMS that is sent automatically. This means you set up the automation once, and it’s triggered when a specific activity or event occurs. Such an event could be a customer in your database having a birthday or a new order being placed in the system.

Your automation consists of various settings, with the activity/event that triggers the automation being one of them. Another setting is who will receive the automation — perhaps people living in a specific country, those who haven’t purchased an add-on product, or customers of a certain gender. Additionally, your automation needs a design and/or text, depending on whether it’s an email or SMS.

What is an order automation?

An order automation is an automation triggered by placed orders. An order can include, for example, a season ticket, event tickets, or a hotel booking — with or without add-on products.

The order automation is triggered by the fact that an order has been placed. You can choose whether the automation should be sent as soon as possible after the order is made or, for instance, two weeks after the order was placed. You can even choose to send it three years after the order was placed.

Order automations are particularly useful for informing customers about benefits, added value, and practical details related to their purchase. They are also great for preventing churn and retaining your customers. For example, you could set up an automation that says you miss the customer, sent to those who haven’t made a purchase in the past two years.

Examples of order automations

Here are four examples of how you can use order automations. Enjoy!

Send information after a purchase

Goal: Inform the customer.

How: Set up an automation that informs the customer about what’s included in their purchase. For example, if the customer has bought a season ticket or an annual pass, it’s a good idea to inform them about the number of events included and how to book their visits. You can also share tips on any benefits.

When: As soon as possible after the order is placed. You can also have an automation that reminds the customer of this information, preferably six months after the purchase.

Create additional sales after a purchase

Goal: Encourage the customer to buy more.

How: Whether the customer has bought a concert ticket, a ski pass, or an annual pass, it’s smart to inform them about benefits and discounts. For example, if you offer a 20% discount on food during their stay or the chance to bring a friend at a reduced price, you can inform them using an order automation.

When: 5–15 days after the purchase. You can also have an automation that reminds the customer of this information, preferably six months after the purchase.

Encourage the customer to buy a specific product again

Goal: Get the customer to order a specific product again.

How: Create a good offer that you send to those who previously purchased a particular product but haven’t bought it for a while.

When: Preferably when six months have passed since the last product purchase.

Win back the customer!

Goal: Get the customer to buy again and retain them.

How: Reach out to those who haven’t placed a new order for a while. For example, you can send a great offer to customers in this target group.

When: Preferably when 6–12 months have passed since the last order. You can also have another automation that is sent 24 months after the order.

How to set up an order automation in MarketHype

Setting up an order automation in MarketHype is simple! Here’s how to do it:

1. Choose the type of order automation you want to use: SMS or email.

2. Decide when the automation should be sent. Should it go out as soon as possible after an order is placed? Or should it be sent after a certain number of days, weeks, months, or years have passed since the order was made?

3. Select the type of communication for the automation. Is it marketing or important information?

4. Name your automation.

5. Who should receive the automation? Choose the recipients and use the smart filters to refine your target audience.

6. Design your email or create your SMS.

7. Test your automation to ensure everything looks good.

8. Finalize the settings for your automation. For example, if you want the automation to only reach the recipient once, set that here.

9. Review and launch your order automation. (You’re almost done. Go, you!)

10. Need to make changes or pause the automation? Of course, you can do both even after the automation has started.
